How do you make a tissue dance?

Put a little boogie in it!
Check our Upcoming Events listed at the bottom of the newsletter!

We have a lot coming up in October and you and your kids won't want to miss it! Events include the Read-A-Thon, Harvest Dance, Book Fair and a day off school!

Details about each of these events will come as the events get closer. Be checking our facebook page, website and keep reading the newsletter for more info!
Book Drive!

We need your *gently* used books! Phantom Lake Elementary is welcoming a new teacher this week, a third kindergarten teacher, Mrs Banerjee! Our new teacher is in need of books for her classroom. Please look through your bookshelves and consider donating your *gently* used books - picture books, early-reading books, children's books - to our book drive to help stock her classroom! All reading levels are welcome, but kindergarten-level reading is preferred!

Books can be dropped off at the front office any time!
Walk to School Day!

Lace up those sneakers and walking shoes and walk to school on Wednesday, October 10th!

Prizes will be given to the kids for walking to school!

Also, if you live too far to walk, consider parking at either of our neighborhood parks (Evergreen Park located off Lake Hills Blvd or Lake Hills Park located off 164th Ave SE - there is a trail from this park that cuts through PLE) or the Lake Hills Library and walking from there!

Everyone should have gotten a 2-page (front and back) handout through kid mail that goes over the official rules and entry for the National PTA Reflections program.

The Reflections program is an arts contest put on by the National PTA for the last 50 years. The program helps "students explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life". (from the National PTA Reflections Arts Program webpage) If you walked through Crossroads Mall last spring, you may have seen displays in the hallway by Hallmark showcasing Reflections work from students in surrounding schools.

Students in all grades (pre-K-5 at Phantom Lake) can create and submit original works of art in one or all of the available arts categories. The categories are: Dance Choreography; Film; Literature; Music; Photography; and Visual Arts.

Our theme this year is Heroes Around Me (you'll see fliers with "Heroes Around Me" on the notice boards around school!).

Submissions are due to the front office by November 1!

Before and After School Programs

A couple big announcements for 2 of our programs:

Guitar/Ukulele Lessons is now starting on Friday, October 19th! Classes meet from 7:30AM-8:30AM on Friday mornings through December 21st (with no class on November 9th or 23rd). Cost for the semester is $120. And don't worry about buying a guitar or ukulele for your student - one will be provided for them! Go to:  http://www.rocknmore.org/phantomlake to sign up!

The Spanish Immersion class now has an installment payment plan! The full year (October-May) costs $625, but they now have a payment plan where you can pay $215 in 3 installments. Please contact them for installment options! Go to:  http://info8312.wixsite.com/about/copy-of-before-after-school to sign up!

And last but not least, Choir! Ms Hazen is offering 3 choir sessions this fall, winter and spring. Kids can sign up for one or all 3 sessions. Each session has 5 or 6 meetings (each session has a different meeting time) with a performance at the end. Class is free! Go to:  http://phantomlakepta.org/Doc/Programs/Phantom%20Lake%20Choir%202018-2019.pdf for the sign-up form and contact info for Ms Hazen.
Volunteer Opportunities!

The PTA works as a team of volunteers focusing on many important issues and events that involve our children and school. If you are interested in volunteering, we would love to have you! We have a wide variety of needs; commitments can be short or long-term. Please  CLICK HERE to view the volunteer positions we currently have open or go to the Open Volunteer Positions page under the PTA tab on our website.

Harvest Dance!
Decorations, theme, cashiers, food, handling the doors, are a few of the things that need to be done to pull off the best dance party of the year! Click Here to view the sign-up form!

Yearbook Help!
We need a couple people who would be willing to help set up the PLE yearbook! It's great at-home volunteer work that you can do from the comfort of your pajamas. The work is laying out photos; basically making a photo book online. Please contact Caryn Lange at carynlange@gmail.com!
Pick-Up/Drop-Off Procedures and Rules

The School FAQs page on the PTA site has information on traffic rules and laws, entry policies, arrival and pick-up directions, and more! CLICK HERE to view the page.

The Phantom Lake Community Handbook also outlines pick-up and drop-off procedures and rules. You should have gotten a hard copy via kidmail but you can also download a pdf of the handbook by CLICKING HERE

Please be kind and courteous to our neighbors, other parents dropping off or picking up their kids, PLE staff helping to make everything run as smoothly and quickly as possible, and our student crossing guards!
Playground Update

The new playground at PLE has an updated time table of mid-November. We are working closely with the Bellevue School District, however, unforseen circumstances have pushed the date back. We will continue to update everyone as more info comes in.
Family Third Thursday

Our first Family Third Thursday of the year is coming up on October 18th from 8:40-9:30am!

This is a great opportunity for parents, grandparents and siblings to learn alongside your child! Family members should get a visitors badge at the front office before going into the classroom.
Spark! A Bellevue Schools Foundation Auction

Don't miss Spark! Join the Bellevue Schools Foundation for an evening of fun, great food from Saffron Grill, Bollywood dancing, a wine pull, and a raise the paddle auction event.
Spark! will raise funds to support Bellevue Schools Foundation's Arts, Enrichment, and Innovation grants which are awarded to teachers in every one of Bellevue's 29 public schools, including Phantom Lake Elementary! Enrichment and experiential learning, including music, art, culture and science makes school more challenging, meaningful and enjoyable for students. Support for the arts and innovative classroom projects helps spark a love of learning.
The event will be held at Resonance at SOMA Towers on Friday, October 19th from 7-10 p.m.

Tickets are $65 each or $130 per couple until Oct. 9, $70/person or $140 a couple thereafter. Register by Thursday, Sept. 27 to be entered for a drawing for two all-access passes to the Tasveer South Asian Film Festival.
