Read-A-Thon is on!

We are off to a great start with our Read-A-Thon! Our students have been reading machines this past week! Check our PTA facebook page for updates on our reading and donation stats!

We have one more week for the read-a-thon! Keep up the great reading! Remember to have your children "shop" for prizes from their reader page. There's a link at the top of the page as well as along the left menu where they can shop for prizes. They earn money for prizes with each donation they get.

Also check our school's main read-a-thon page - it shows a running tally of readers, minutes read, sponsors and donations as well as information about class prizes!

Happy reading!

Harvest Dance

Join us for a great evening full of fun and dancing at our Harvest Dance this Friday, October 26th from 6-8pm! The theme for the evening is Super Heroes!

There will be a variety of booths with fun things for the kids (tattooes/body art; glow sticks; photo booth!; plus food and goodies!) for a low cost. Costumes are welcome, but please no masks (and they don't have to be super hero costumes!). This event is for the whole family too! Parents, siblings, cousins, grandparents, etc! It's a night to remember!

Reflections

Everyone should have gotten a 2-page (front and back) handout through kid mail that goes over the official rules and entry for the National PTA Reflections program.

The Reflections program is an arts contest put on by the National PTA for the last 50 years. The program helps "students explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life". (from the National PTA Reflections Arts Program webpage) If you walked through Crossroads Mall last spring, you may have seen displays in the hallway by Hallmark showcasing Reflections work from students in surrounding schools.

Students in all grades (pre-K-5 at Phantom Lake) can create and submit original works of art in one or all of the available arts categories. The categories are: Dance Choreography; Film; Literature; Music; Photography; and Visual Arts.

Our theme this year is Heroes Around Me (you'll see fliers with "Heroes Around Me" on the notice boards around school!).

Submissions are due to the front office by November 1!

Socktober Drive!

PLE is celebrating Unity Day by having a sock drive! Please donate new adult and child socks to the front office by the end of the month - there is a white box on the table for donations! The socks will be donated to local shelters and organizations to help homeless in our area have cozy toes this winter. Click here to view the flier.
Book Fair

Your children should have come home with fliers for the Scholastic Book Fair on Friday. The Book Fair benefits our PLE library! The Book Fair will be every day the week of October 29th-November 2nd after school. There is an online store that will open on October 24th. CLICK HERE to view the online store. Help us support our school library!
Volunteer Opportunities!

The PTA works as a team of volunteers focusing on many important issues and events that involve our children and school. If you are interested in volunteering, we would love to have you! We have a wide variety of needs; commitments can be short or long-term. Please CLICK HERE to view the volunteer positions we currently have open or go to the Open Volunteer Positions page under the PTA tab on our website.

Harvest Dance!
Decorations, theme, cashiers, food, handling the doors, are a few of the things that need to be done to pull off the best dance party of the year! Click Here to view the sign-up form!

Book Fair!
Cashier positions (different dates and times available), and help taking down the displays. Click here to view the sign-up form!

Yearbook Help!
We need a couple people who would be willing to help set up the PLE yearbook! It's great at-home volunteer work that you can do from the comfort of your pajamas. The work is laying out photos; basically making a photo book online. Please contact Caryn Lange at carynlange@gmail.com!

Reflections Help!
We need people to help students with their art projects as well as helping with displays. If interested, please contact Melissa Gray at
graymis@gmail.com
